Just minutes away from AmishView Inn & Suites, this iconic railroad offers an unforgettable experience that combines the nostalgia of historic trains with the beauty of Pennsylvania Dutch countryside.

The Strasburg Rail Road: A Railroad Experience Like No Other

Established in 1832, the Strasburg Rail Road is America’s oldest continuously operating railroad. It’s the perfect destination for anyone passionate about trains or seeking a unique day out in Lancaster County. Visitors can step aboard an authentic steam locomotive and embark on a scenic journey through the lush, rolling farmlands that make Lancaster famous. The Strasburg Rail Road is home to 5 working steam locomotives and 20 operating passenger cars – they restore and maintain these historic cars on site. This provides an early 20th century train experience for their guests.

The 45-minute round trip on this historic railroad offers stunning views of Amish farms, serene countryside, and charming small towns. It’s not just a train ride—it’s a journey back in time. The Strasburg Rail Road also hosts special events throughout the year, including themed excursions, wine and cheese tours, and seasonal festivities, making it a great addition to any “vacation for train lovers.” Consider bringing a picnic lunch and getting off at the picnic spot before continuing your journey on the next train. Some of our guests’ favorite trains are the Wine & Cheese, Escape Room, and Bonnie & Clyde Experience (yes cops, robbers and some pyrotechnics).

For kids, the Strasburg Rail Road is the home of Thomas the Train – with several weekends each year where Thomas is showcased. You may also see Mavis and Percy! These weekends feature additional Thomas the Train themed activities. Strasburg Rail Road also offers Santa and Easter Bunny trains. Not to be missed is the Night Before Christmas train.

The Strasburg Rail Road is located at 301 Gap Road (Rt 741), Ronks, PA 17572. Phone: 1-866-725-9666.

Just 6.3 mile (10 minutes) on scenic country roads from AmishView Inn & Suites.
